What if crime data could be correlated with bar locations to find the safest route home after a night out?

That is the idea being floated in Washington and several other cities where government organizations turn over crime statistics to private companies.

In Washington, a Web site called Stumble Safely makes that possible. It is one example of the kind of creativity that cities are hoping to mobilize by turning over big chunks of data to programmers and the public.

Wouldn’t an enterprising criminal find the most statistically “safe” route home and feast on the wallets of the highly inebriated stumbling home?   Full story here.
