Despite Themselves, Republicans (Mostly) Vote Republican

It looks like Ben Bernanke’s going to be back.  Although it was widely noted Bernanke pulled the economy back from the brink, several folks criticized him for not doing more to prevent and forecast the catastrophic events.

Senator Richard C. Shelby of Alabama, the committee’s ranking Republican, said that Mr. Bernanke, first as a member of the board of governors and then as chairman, was complicit in creating an atmosphere that encouraged risk-taking and contributed to the disastrous housing price bubble — signs of which, Mr. Shelby said, Mr. Bernanke had missed.

Maybe.

But in 2006 would Republican Senator Shelby really have been cool with Big Ben puttin’ the breaks on the free wheeling ways of the financial ways?  Probably not.
