Fun with Similes

From the Baltimore Chronicle, some of these are genius.

Favorite:

“The politician was gone but unnoticed, like the period after the Dr.. on a Dr Pepper can.”—Wayne Goode, Madison, AL

  1. i gotta go with the one abou the guy who goes around talking about the dangers of looking at solar eclipses.

  2. My vote is for the chasing kids with power tools!

    • In grad school my writing workshop partner used the following simile in a screenplay. If he doesn’t have his movie made by 2012 he gave me permission to use it–err I guess this won’t count– “listening to their conversation was like watching a tuskless and trunkless elephant try to place a call on a rotary phone.” I specifically liked how he specified tuskless and trunkless as if that would have made things easier.

  3. “It came down the stairs looking very much like something no one had ever seen before.”

Nice. Also like the idea of a perfect oval. Harder than a perfect circle both to draw and define, I reckon.
